Canada’s Cyber Security Challenge

Four teams from Nova Scotia Community College and Dalhousie University went head-to-head on March 14, 2020 on the NSCC campus.
And the First Place winners were… team “Dumpster Fire” from NSCC!
Second Place: team “Nims Lab” from Dalhousie
Third Place: team “Gecko” from NSCC.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the event was reduced to four teams. But a full competiton was held, and 16 participants competed for supremacy.
College and university undergrad students from the Maritime provinces competed in a realistic cyber breach simulation – hands-on participation and analysis – and students could win IT Security jobs with local employers.

– Community recognition for sponsors
– Improving skills of the cyber workforce in Alberta
When: Saturday March 14, 2020
Where: NSCC – Nova Scotia Community College
Schools: Nova Scotia Community College and Dalhousie University. Due to Covid-19 outbreak, UNB, Oulton College, and NBCC were forced to withdraw the day before the event.
Format: Students compete in teams to recon a vulnerable computer network, break through the cyber defenses, take control of the systems, and advise the company on how to defend against cyber attacks. Finalists will then do on-site interviews with the the sponsoring companies.
Prizes: Top students were to be offered fully-paid Intern positions with local employers to do serious IT Security work. Due to Covid-19 outbreak, the event sponsors were forced to withdraw.
